    Saturday, February 22, 2020 - Beginning Billing - Get a firm foundation and learn how to do it right the first time.  Brand new to billing or been doing it but still have questions? This is the class for you.  You'll leave with lots of resources and a good understanding of the billing process.

    Sunday, February 23, 2020 - Exams and Bulletproof Documentation - Understand what carriers are looking for and give it to them.  You'll learn how to create a treatment plan and goal of treatment, use outcome assessments as well as understanding how to document and justify Medical Necessity.

    There will be additional information about insurance as it relates to Washington and surrounding states.

    Classes are taught by:

    Mori West CPC, the CEO of Acuclaims, an insurance billing company for Acupuncturists. Last year Acuclaims collected over 10 million dollars for their clients.  Mori is a member of AMBA (American Medical Billing Association) and was their 2010 member of the year.  She is also certified as a Professional Coder with AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders.)

    Special Instruction on basic orthopedic exams to strengthen your clinical documentation will be provided by Roger West, D.C., Q.M.E. Dr.  West is a longtime advocate of acupuncture and for the last 34 years worked side by side with an acupuncturist in his practice. Dr. West is a Qualified Medical Evaluator appointed by the state of California.

     Acupuncture in Hospice Care, An Introduction

    Learning Objectives:

    • To gain a clear understanding of the hospice philosophy
    • To gain understanding of what it is like to practice acupuncture in the integrative context of Hospice Care
    • To consider death and dying from a Chinese medicine perspective
    • To gain awareness of some of the skills and capacities needed to support patients near the end of life


    Susan has worked in Hospice Care since 2010, providing acupuncture and acupressure to ease uncomfortable symptoms and support patients to have the best possible quality of life. Susan provides end-of-life acupuncture for both Providence Hospice and Gentiva Hospice (formerly Odyssey Hospice).

    Susan is a graduate of Purdue University and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, nationally certified by the NCCAOM, licensed in Oregon by the Oregon Medical Board, and holds a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the four year post-graduate program at OCOM. During her acupuncture training, she served as a clinical intern at the Oregon Health Science University (OHSU).  Susan is a whole-hearted advocate of integrated care where eastern and western medicine come together in order to provide the best options for patients.

    Joshua Graner, LAC will explore the role of the Vagus Nerve
    in perceived safety and how this relationship can
    reduce or amplify chronic pain signals

    Joshua Graner started his medical career as a paratrooper medic in the 82nd Airborne division of the US Army where he taught and practiced field medicine for 10 years.  He has a BS in nutritional sciences from the University of Nevada Reno and graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2009.  In 2011 he founded the Courageous Heart Foundation to provide integrative medicine to combat veterans.  He has worked as a clinician and program director for integrative programs in addiction recovery, mental health and pain management centers in Southern Oregon.  He currently works as a functional pain specialist for La Clinica Del Valle, a public health system in Southern Oregon that provides healthcare for the underserved.
