The Polyvagal Theory maps out our brain/organ pathways to help us better understand and help people whose past trauma has led them to “freeze” or “shutdown”. Understanding this system will help us match our patients’ needs via our acupuncture, herbs, bodywork, and our treatment setting.

In this 2-hour presentation, Joanna will describe how Dr. Stephen Porges developed the polyvagal theory over the last 4 decades and how our meridian tools are most helpful in addressing the needs of the autonomic nervous system in order to safely get past the barriers guarding their specific needs.  We will explore neuro/organ and vascular anatomy with case studies to reignite our hope that we can indeed shift from being “stuck” in our treatment effectiveness to patients moving forward in their lives with vitality.

Example topics we will cover:

  • Heart Rate irregularities: arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation (AFib), bradycardia, syncope (fainting or passing out), and vasovagal syndrome.
  • Recognizing the tone of the Autonomic Nervous System, ANS and how best to engage with your patient in each state.
  • Feel the left and right vagus nerves in your own body and learn which organs are connected.
