Acupuncture in Hospice Care, An Introduction

Learning Objectives:

  • To gain a clear understanding of the hospice philosophy
  • To gain understanding of what it is like to practice acupuncture in the integrative context of Hospice Care
  • To consider death and dying from a Chinese medicine perspective
  • To gain awareness of some of the skills and capacities needed to support patients near the end of life

Susan has worked in Hospice Care since 2010, providing acupuncture and acupressure to ease uncomfortable symptoms and support patients to have the best possible quality of life. Susan provides end-of-life acupuncture for both Providence Hospice and Gentiva Hospice (formerly Odyssey Hospice).

Susan is a graduate of Purdue University and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, nationally certified by the NCCAOM, licensed in Oregon by the Oregon Medical Board, and holds a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the four year post-graduate program at OCOM. During her acupuncture training, she served as a clinical intern at the Oregon Health Science University (OHSU).  Susan is a whole-hearted advocate of integrated care where eastern and western medicine come together in order to provide the best options for patients.
