    The OAAOM is aware of the struggles that many Oregon acupuncturists are facing with the recent discussion around the denial of E&M codes by certain insurance companies in our state.

    OAAOM is drafting a letter that relays our organization's opinion in this matter, especially regarding our scope of practice. OMB is our official licensing board and we are on their acupuncture advisory committee agenda for an upcoming meeting in December to further define these areas for acupuncturists in Oregon.

    Please note that OAAOM has limits on what we can legally do in this matter. If you are an individual provider who has contracted with a company, it is your right to contact them about the terms and reimbursement outlined in your contract. You can also file an online complaint with the Oregon Insurance Division about your particular case.

    Working to advocate and address issues like this, that affect the livelihood of EAM providers and acupuncturists in the State of Oregon, are a huge part of the work that we do at the OAAOM.

    Are you behind us? Have you, or your organization, joined the OAAOM to help acupuncturists succeed in Oregon? Your support helps to, among other things:
    1) CREATE POLICY: Give acupuncturists a voice to lawmakers and government officials, who decide what we can and cannot legally do in the state;
    2) CREATE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: OAAOM provides free CEU credits to it's members throughout the year;
    3) NETWORK WITH OTHER HCP ORGANIZATIONS: We work to communicate with other state and national associations for Acupuncturists as well as the state and national associations for many other types of health care providers;
    4) TOOLS FOR L.AC: We help to centralize and promote tools for licensed acupuncturists that help in maintaining thriving practices, promote education and research that boosts our profession, connect providers with mentors and other opportunities for growth,
    5) PROMOTE PATIENT EDUCATION: We help to promote patient education around EAM and acupuncture to help all providers reach a larger segment of our population,
    6) HIGHLIGHT OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONALS: We strive to highlight outstanding professionals in our communities, as inspirational models of how strong our medicine (and the research around it) can be.
