General Guidelines for Service

1. Participation: As a small and new organization with very limited funds, all Board members and Alternates are expected to take on active leadership roles and undertake tasks for the advancement of our profession.

2. Flexibility: Due to the limited resources available, and to be a flexible and efficient organization, roles and tasks are not set in stone. Following open discussions within the Board, tasks may be undertaken by anybody on the Board who is capable and willing to both undertake and to complete the assignment.  All Board members will support the decision, once a selection has been made.

3. Ethics & Privacy: It is also expected that all Board members will respect the confidentiality of ongoing discussions within the Board and serve honorably, within acceptable ethical guidelines for professional organizations.  As such, we request that sensitive information and internal discussions not be made public without Board approval (i.e, vote).

4. Communication Skills: As a general rule, excellent communication skills are needed to serve the large and diverse Oregon AOM community. Computer skills like creating spreadsheets for maintaining finances and member records are helpful.  Writing Skills for document composition for legislative purposes and newsletters is optimal. Presentation skills using are useful.

5. Electronic communications: Since most or all of us will be clinicians and busy with other commitments, email access will allow us to communicate with each other in a timely fashion and to share our opinions freely.
