Her love of nature and interest in health led her to the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in South Florida where she obtained her Master of Acupuncture degree. Joanna Flores, L.Ac., ABT is also an active member of the AOBTA, which is trying to uphold the Asian Bodywork profession. Joanna volunteered for the OAAOM after eye opening processing with the Oregon Medical Board. She and her husband, Gonzalo Flores, L.Ac. Membership Director – Beth Howlett
Beth Howlett, LAc, began her study of things Chinese in 1994 at Bryn Mawr College, enticed by the prospect of learning a language with no verb tenses. After graduation she was selected to participate in Princeton-in-Asia’s teaching intern program in Ningbo, China. Upon returning to the USA, Beth deepened her study of Chinese language and culture by pursuing a MAcOM at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. In 2008, Beth traveled to China for a third time to complete internship training at the Nanjing University of TCM. Beth is looking forward to the opportunity to return to NUTCM as adjunct faculty for this year’s OCOM study abroad trip. Her passion for the medicine and translating source texts has also led her to help facilitate an ongoing relationship between OCOM and the Kam Wah Chung Co. museum in John Day, Oregon. Currently employed as an Admissions Coordinator for OCOM, Beth also works part-time as a LAc at Written on the Body on 29th and NE Alberta in Portland (www.writtenonthebody.info) and also creating workplace wellness programs and services through TEAM Works (teamworkspdx.com).

Dixie grew up with an appreciation of the natural wonders of the rivers, flatwoods and coastal regions of her native state, Florida. This love of nature brought her to move to Alaska, working in the areas surrounding Denali National Park and the Cook Inlet. When later introduced to the Pacific Northwest and Portland, she was struck not only by the abundance of natural wonders but by the area’s culture of conciously creative living and scholarship in the healing arts. She earned her MAOM from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, OR. It is her desire to contribute to transformative
healing and increased wellness in this community. She currently practices at Grain Integrative Health in Portland, OR and works to create workplace wellness opportunities with T.E.A.M. Works.

Board Member – Laura Ocker
Laura Ocker is an Oregon L.Ac. with a private practice in Milwaukie and many years experience working in integrated public health clinics. She developed an Oriental medicine program at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center in Hillsboro and works there as a Licensed Acupuncturist. Laura earned a B.S. in Biology from Florida State University in 1993 and an MAcOM from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2003. Prior to work as an acupuncturist, Laura’s professional background was in ecology and conservation biology.
