Business Description:

Mission

My mission is to provide safe, natural, effective and affordable health care to help my patients and customers achieve and maintain optimal health and wellbeing.

History and Background

In 1976, while visiting a small island off the coast of Scotland, I was introduced to acupuncture by a fellow traveler. This chance encounter led to further investigation in England, including my first treatment. Later study in Japan included shiatsu massage and volunteer assistant at a research institute investigating acupuncture energetics and various forms of distance and hands on healing. Meeting Mother Theresa and healers throughout Asia inspired me to pursue further studies in Oriental Medicine. I returned to America to study at the New England School of Acupuncture in Boston, graduating in 1983. During this period I maintained a private practice, while working at a substance abuse treatment clinic and at the Pain and Stress Clinic of the Shattuck Hospital. Additional investigation into healing ranged from meditation, magnetic devices, therapeutic touch and reiki to Native American ceremonies and firewalking. In 1994 I returned to Oregon and opened Columbia Acupuncture with offices in Hillsboro and Scappoose, where I have now provided complimentary health care services for over fifteen years.

Services and Products Offered

To achieve this end, I utilize numerous tools and techniques from Oriental and natural medicine including devices, techniques, herbs and products from all corners of the world in addition to acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Nutritional supplements and herbs for osteoporosis, hormone balancing, arthritis, stress, inflammation, trauma, colon cleansing and detoxification are very popular. Nutritional superfoods and air and water purification products round out our program of disease prevention.

Conditions Treated

Most patients I see suffer from chronic pain, usually back, neck, shoulder, limbs and headaches – the primary focus of my practice. However, I have also had success in the treatment of many other conditions including digestive, respiratory, emotional, gynecological, and so on.

What a typical treatment session looks like

Appointments are generally one hour in length, after the initial ninety minute consultation and treatment. As I work with only one person at a time, we can utilize several treatment modalities in addition to acupuncture. The hour includes review of the previous week, discussion of new information and questions. Treatment of back pain, for example, may include acupuncture on the back as well as ears, hands and feet. Electrical stimulation, far-infrared heat, a friction technique called ‘gua sha’, shiatsu massage or a magnetic instrument may be employed. Topical liniments and oils may be applied for inflammation, pain or emotional ease. The Chi Machine promotes overall circulation and relaxation.

Health Insurance Accepted

I can accept most health insurance plans including OHP. Free initial consultation I will be happy to discuss your health concerns and work with you to develop a program to achieve optimal wellbeing for you and your family. Please feel free to call me to discuss your situation and determine if Columbia Acupuncture is a good fit for you.
